Norwood Greening Project moves forward

The Norwood Greening Project is moving forward. This fall, we are reconnecting with neighbors to share where the project stands and what comes next.

The project will turn the former Norwood Elementary School site into a 6-acre community park for El Monte children and families. The park ideas come from three community workshops held in 2022 and 2023, where residents voted on the features they wanted most.

What comes next

• Now through December 2026: We are reconnecting with the neighborhood and hearing from residents.
• Spring 2027: A design and construction team is selected.
• Summer 2027 to mid-2028: The park design is finalized and permits are secured.
• Summer 2028: Construction is expected to begin.
• Summer 2029: The park is expected to open.

The concept plan created with the community is the starting point. The design will continue to develop in 2027.
